Goethe's Faust

Michael Jaeger

Goethe wrote his Faust tragedy, with many interruptions, almost throughout his entire life, beginning during the Rococo era and only finishing in his 82nd year under the influence of the Parisian July Revolution of 1830. Based on the latest findings of Faust philology, Michael Jaeger follows the protagonist's path from a scholarly room in a Renaissance setting to a large canal construction site where the steam engines are already in operation. The drama reflects the great transformation that separates the world of old Europe from the modern industrial age.
