Armin Nassehi

In his new book, Armin Nassehi shows why modern complex societies are notoriously overburdened with the management of crises

In our handling of the pandemic and the climate crisis, it becomes clear that the various political, economic, familial, and scientific instances of society follow their own logics of operation contradicting each other internally and externally. As a result, the attempt to combine all political forces to overcome the crisis is bound to fail. Calls for more solidarity and cohesion sound good, but against this background they are illusory. In his book, Armin Nassehi argues that complex societies continuously experience themselves as being in crisis, without ever returning to a form of prestabilized harmony. At the same time, he suggests what can be learned from our handling of the pandemic and the climate crisis in order to be better equipped for future crisis situations.
