This book tells the story of rock and pop music from its beginnings to the present day. Bands, songs, styles, sound forms, and recording techniques are explored as well as changes in the music industry and the revolutions in youth culture that have accompanied the evolution of popular music since Elvis Presley arrived on the scene. Peter Wicke is professor emeritus of the theory and history of popular music at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
