The 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to the discoverers of gravitational waves and it represents the success of more than a thousand researchers who were able to work together to prove their existence. The physicist Hartmut Grote, an internationally known expert in this field, provides a first-hand account of this amazing discovery of the century. Gravitational waves are produced by all accelerated bodies, from the explosion of stars or the merger of two black holes to something as simple as starting your car.
